TRAVELING TO UTAH
I realize I'm a little behind on this but I had it written down in a paper journal before realizing I'd like to share my adventures with others as well.
Thursday, September 6th - Day One - flat
First day of driving! I wasn't as nervous about the drive as I think everyone else in my family was. Started in Wisconsin, to Illinois, through Iowa, and ended the day in Omaha, Nebraska. It wasn't a very eventful drive - a lot of flat land. I will give Iowa major props for its numerous amounts of wind farms. That's not something I see too much of (ever) in Wisconsin. I will not give Iowa props for the resident drivers that like to switch lanes without turn signals or any attempt to check mirrors and/or blind spots before merging into lanes. I suppose this is probably everywhere, however, it was scary. I got into Omaha, Nebraska at rush hour, which was not ideal given their wide, 5 lane highway, but I survived. My GPS (Thurston) seemed to be confused and instead of telling me where to turn to get into the parking lot of the hotel, said "arriving at destination on the left" as it took me passed it on the highway. Using my fantastic sense of direction...meaning putting the address back into Thurston, it was easily fixed, but at that point I was tired of being in the car and contemplated just driving up the hill of the freeway (totally kidding, I promise). The hotel was nice and both the pool and hot tub were uninhabited, which was great. Not too bad for a day of driving.
Friday, September 7th - Day Two - plains
Headed out of Omaha that morning onward through Nebraska. I didn't take any pictures the first day because there wasn't much to take pictures of (other than the wind farms but I couldn't find a good place to stop to capture them), but that all changed on Day 2. I was now in the Great Plain area. The first thing that caught my eye was a giant bridge that went over the freeway. This was no ordinary bridge, and naturally, my curiosity got the best of me so I exited the freeway to check it out. It was called the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument to honor the great plains. Inside and outside they had tours (which I didn't take) that seemed interesting, but not something I wanted to embark on then. I took some pictures outside of the different tour stops they had and then hopped back in the car to continue on my journey.
I finished driving through Nebraska and entered Colorado where I stayed in Keenesburg for the night. It's a super cute town of about 500 people. I checked into my hotel and started exploring. They have an adorable town shop area and more antique stores than I've ever seen. They also have a lot of dogs. It was fantastic.
I will resume writing about my travels later as I have to prepare for my first day of interning!
Awesome Steph!! Such a pretty area and seems like you are having tons of fun!!
